Jack and I have met a few times over the years, however it wasn't until this past December at Demarest where we started a conversation about our experiences wood firing. When Jack asked if I would join him in leading the 29th year of his "Komuri" anagama kiln firing, I was swept with emotions. Fired once per year for 5 days, I've many friends who have fired with Jack in the past years. I remember receiving a copy of his book, "Woodfired Stoneware and Porcelain" at my undergraduate Florida Atlantic University graduation party in 1999. I mixed everyone of his recipes in that book, and learned quite a bit from a man I'd never yet met.
