I'll be up at Peters Valley for 5 days this summer to conduct a woodfire workshop in the noborigama. If you are nearby, come on out for the firing ;)
Utilizing the 2 chambered noborigama participants will focus on careful loading of the kiln to maximize the development of flame markings, and ash melt. During the woodfiring careful observations will be made on the atmospheric conditions, flame speed, and ash melt. Because stoking patterns and intensity are very important to the success of the firing, Justin will develop and explain systems to keep everyone in the firing crew on the same "game plan". Students need no prior experience in woodfiring and will leave with a better understanding of what happens in a wood kiln and with firing knowledge applicable to other wood kilns in the future. Please bring bisque-fired work (made of high temperature stoneware or porcelain) ready to fire for this workshop.
